LIFE REFOREST project organizes next Thursday, March 5 at the DOMUS (A Coruña) a seminar for the recovery of burnt forest soils.

 

The event, which will last throughout the morning, will feature the participation of renowned speakers.

The seminar will be opened by Julio Fierro, PhD. in agronomic engineering and senior biorefinery researcher at CETIM, who will make the presentation of the LIFE REFOREST project. He will be followed by Francisco Dans, Director of the Galician Forestry Association ,who will give his vision on the different problematics and management solutions for forest areas with a high risk of fire and, later, Tomás Fernández-Couto, as General Manager of Forest’s Defence of the Xunta de Galicia, will talk about the challenges that Galicia is facing to solve the problems of erosion and soil loss due to fires.

 

The conference will continue with the participation of Felipe Macías, Professor of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry at the University of Santiago de Compostela, who will explain the use of techno-soils as a solution to erosion caused by fires. Finally, Cristina Fernández, from the Forest Protection Department of the Lourizán Forest Research Centre, will explain the use of different stabilisation and regeneration techniques for burnt areas.

 

The seminar will be ended with a round of questions and requests.
