CETIM participates in workshop on new materials’ applications to design
- It was one of the technological centres invited to the workshop organized in the Galician Centre for Innovation and Services (CIS), in Ferrol.
- The objective of the activity was to disseminate the new materials, especially those created in Galicia, as a focus of high value opportunities for design applied to business innovation.
- The advanced materials sector is one of the areas of knowledge in which CETIM focuses its business activity.
CETIM was one of the Galician innovation centres invited to the workshop “New materials for design and innovation” organized by the Ministry of Economy, Economy and Industry in the Galician Centre for Innovation and Services (CIS) of Ferrol last November 29th. During Her presentation, PhD Rosalía Noguerol, manager of CETIM’s Advanced Materials area, highlighted the professional challenges that are being addressed in this area, as well as several of the innovation projects developed from lignocellulosic materials (such as kraft lignin or cellulose), polymeric materials (thermoplastics, thermosets, biopolymers) and coatings, and sustainable building materials (such as geopolymers).
In this last point, Noguerol focused on the possibilities of applying mortars and sustainable concretes in a construction sector more respectful with the environment, in line with the new circular economy model. In fact, obtaining new materials from waste and finding innovation opportunities for companies is one of the pillars of work in CETIM’s Advanced Materials area.
This workshop is part of the “Design Program for Innovation 2020” of the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN) aimed at current and future design and business professionals to systematize their collaboration as a driver of competitiveness. The final objective was to disseminate the new materials, especially those created in Galicia, as a focus of high value opportunities for design applied to business innovation.
In fact, the target audience was students and designers from all fields, researchers and technologists in the field of new materials, representatives of companies and other entities interested in the strategic implementation of design.
The meeting was completed with a practical workshop in which attendees generated ideas and application opportunities for new materials in unexplored sectors.
