Presentation of MEXICAL project

On January 15, 2019, the CETIM Technological Centre will host in its facilities the presentation event of the Conecta PEME Call project MEXICAL “Advanced integral system for the valuation of by-products derived from mussel shell for the production of high value-added products”

Its consortium is made up of the companies INDUTEC Ingenieros, TRESIMA, VITALMAR and Galaytec, the latter leader of the consortium. With the technological support of CETIM, the partners will study the integral valorisation of Galician mussel processing. To do this, the use of the shell “in-situ” and methodology for this will be investigated and optimized, and evaluation of its subsequent application in value-added products such as production of a mineral fertilizer based on calcium carbonate of easy agricultural assimilation and high chemical reactivity and a protein concentrate with a high concentration in salts and intended for animal feed, thanks to the inorganic and organic fractions associated with this by-product, respectively. That is, the integration of the mussel shell in the mussel production process, with the aim of achieving a process with “zero waste” and a greater added value.
