CETIM has joined the ‘Alianza Galega polo Clima’ and presents its upcoming Centre of Excellence in Circular Economy
Ángeles Vázquez, the second vice-president of the Xunta de Galicia and Regional Minister for the Environment, Territory, and Housing, visited our facilities this morning. During the visit, she gained firsthand insights into our Technology Centre’s dedication to environmental initiatives.
This morning, we joined the ‘Alianza Galega polo Clima’ during the visit of the second vice-president of the Xunta de Galicia and Regional Minister of Environment, Territory and Housing, Ángeles Vázquez, to our facilities, located in Culleredo, A Coruña. It was our General Manager, Toni Pons, who formalised CETIM’s commitment to the environment.
Toni Pons: “Our commitment to sustainability and the environment, in which we have been working and specialising since our creation, 10 years ago, through our intense R&D activity, is reinforced today with the addition of CETIM to the ‘Alianza Galega polo Clima'”. “This alliance means making progress in improving the environment, contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and also taking another step forward in public-private collaboration in the search for and promotion of innovative environmental solutions”, he added.
The ‘Alianza Galega polo Clima’ is an initiative of the Xunta de Galicia to seek common and coordinated measures that generate synergies in climate action in Galicia. This Alliance brings together organisations committed to the fight against climate change, the efficient management of resources, environmental improvement and a common commitment to achieving the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.
The Second Vice-President and Regional Minister for the Environment, Territory and Housing, Ángeles Vázquez, after highlighting the commitment that unites the administration and the productive and social fabric in the common goal of placing Galicia at the forefront of European regions in the fight against global warming, stressed the importance of CETIM’s support as a “benchmark centre in circular economy” through the development of technologies to obtain high-value products from waste and by-products from different sectors.
Also present during the signing were the General Director of Environmental Quality, Sustainability and Climate Change, Sagrario Pérez, the spokesperson of the Partido Popular in Culleredo, Izaskun García, and the Executive Director of CETIM, Lucía Camino Vázquez.
From CETIM we also demonstrated our high degree of commitment to the environment to Ángeles Vázquez through the presentation of our Centre of Excellence for the Competitiveness of Circular Economy, a project for the former La Cross factory in O Burgo, which will position Galicia as a Galician pole of circular economy.
The facilities will have more than 8,000 square metres and will have spaces for the coworking of companies specialised in sustainability and circular economy, as well as spaces for training and awareness-raising; but also for all our laboratories.
Due to the great growth in recent years, Toni Pons explained that we need “facilities that allow us to group all our laboratories in the same space, to meet future growth needs and bring together in Galicia the excellence in R&D in Circular Economy and Sustainability” and, in addition, the construction will be environmentally friendly, giving to know “pilots of our research in advanced bio-based and sustainable materials and water treatment systems, among others,” added Pons.
